March 4-8, 2024

As many of you know, at Dixon Road ES we will be celebrating the love of reading all month for Read Across America. I am excited to have time to celebrate authors, books, and hopefully ignite a love of reading in some students who don't have it already. HERE you will find events planned for the month. It is the expectation that at least twice this month you meet with your buddy class to read. The list of buddy classes can be found on the calendar in the notes section at the bottom. I am also sharing the Staff Favorite Books Slideshow that you can share with your students anytime this month and will beg Ms. Tina to have it up in the office a few days this month. The link is under instructional resources on the dashboard and linked at the top of the Read Across America Calendar.

A few updates:

1. We will not have a WICOR Reading strategy focus this month but will have a show and tell section in each blog where pictures of WICOR strategies in practice will be shared. Doing something and an admin is not in there? Take a picture and send it to me.

2. I will be focusing on DOK Levels during my walk throughs and wanted to share current DOK walkthrough data below. You can see that the highest percentages are seen in the lower levels in DOK. Please expect feedback in that area from me and suggestions to review provided questions in HMH and activities in Envision to extend the thinking of students.

3. In PLCs this week, I will need 5 minutes to review feedback from our recent ELA District walkthroughs and plans moving forward.

I hope everyone has had a great weekend and I look forward to seeing each of you tomorrow!

The focus of the session is to explore the multi-disciplinary use of data. Participants will interact with slow-reveal graphs and engage in discussion to explore how data literacy can be developed through integration of multiple content areas. • Have you heard about the Parents' Bill of Rights? If not or you want to learn more, HERE is more information.

Please review the reminders below. These are the same reminders I shared last Sunday but I still received a report about a staff member placing their hands on a student this past week. Please know I recognize there are times you must place your hands on students for their safety and/or the safety of others. Just know that once you put your hands on someone, you have given the person you touched permission to describe how hard the touch was, your believed intent, and how it made them feel. Please do me a favor and share this message with your colleagues that do not read this blog. I have done my part sharing this information and will not accept I didn't know if I must investigate or handle a situation. If you have any questions, please contact me.
