Week of 9/18-9/22
Happy Sunday! Don't know about you but I have a new occupant in my life and their name is stress. It was present as I finished up my doctorate, but it moved out in December of last year and hasn't had such a heavy presence until 8/28/23. Here's a quick TED TALK that discusses how stress can be a friend and not seen as an enemy, If this topic interests you, take a listen...about 15 minutes long. See you tomorrow! Angela

Strategies for the Week
Collaborative Strategy of the Week: Connect-Extend-Challenge (what an awesome strategy that can be used to make connections between new ideas and prior knowledge. This is something that naturally flows into Music and Art when a new piece or song or genre is interested).
Reading Strategy of the Week: KWL (an oldy but goody...check out the link for templates and a foldable you could use in your classroom).
Announcements
Second Grade Schedule was tweaked slightly and will reflect the changes in the approved DRES Schedule. The change involves going to recess immediately after lunch and then completing SS/Science.
Duty Rotation: This is still a work in progress...I can't figure out how to reproduce those not on grade level teams to create a weekly rotation. My goal is to have a schedule to begin Monday, September 26th. The rotation will be a weekly and again, this is for TAs and Enhancement Staff that I have been using for a daily basis. I will send out next weekend and it will have the date for the switch. I will need for those who have never done the position to shadow who you will be covering by 10/2 so you will know how to do you job.
School Wide Expectations: While I am walking around campus, I am noticing at least two spaces where students are not cleaning up after themselves as they should. Please see my two areas of concern below and impress on students how important it is for them to be respectful of our school and themselves and to clean up after themselves. Administration will be working on getting our old behavior matrix up and posted so it can support these conversations.
*Recess: Please ensure that snacks and trash is picked up after recess if eating outside. On the playground, there was an opened pop tart that stayed out there all week. If you go out and it's a mess, please contact Dr. Hill.
*Bathrooms: Please make sure when taking the entire class to the restroom that it is clean after you exit. If sending students individually or in pairs, please remind the students to make sure their paper towels get into the trashcan. Also, students and staff need to use their hands to flush the toilets. Using your feet is pulling a pipe from the wall leading to leaks. Please see Nancy if you have questions about that.
RIME TIME PLANS WILL NEED TO BE IN/LINKED TO PLANBOOK BEGINNING 10/16/23. More discussion will be held in MTSS PLCs this week.
