Week of September 11-14, 2023

To aid in our implementation of WICOR Strategies at DRES, my blog will focus on a different WICOR Instructional Practice each month with the second strategy of Collaboration being discussed throughout the year. For September, we will focus on how Organization Can Make Collaboration rigorous.

Organization is . . . ● Managing materials ● Planning & prioritizing ● Strategically controlling your learning responsibly

Students who organize . . . ● Develop & use processes ● Manage their time well ● Interact with their teachers ● Use self-direction & self evaluation

We know how important Organization can be and what would be a better time to help students grasp these vital learning strategies?

By teaching students how to organize their materials, time, and learning we make collaboration more rigorous? How you may ask?

Collaboration is . . . ● Teamwork with shared responsibility ● Sharing of ideas, info, & opinions ● Formal/informal discussion

Students who collaborate . . . ● Work together toward a common goal ● Develop positive interdependence ● Work in focused study groups ● Support the learning of others

So by intentionally teaching students to organize their materials, time, and learning they are better able to collaborate with their peers because the time spent in groups can be more productive and these skills help ensure that all students are working as collaborating members of the whole.

Below are slides that define COLLABORATION and ORGANIZATION. I know many of you already use some of these strategies but I encourage you to explore and find a way to incorporate a strategy or two into your lessons this coming month. Next week, I'll highlight a few strategies in the blog.

Collaboration

Organization

As walkthroughs begin this week, please do not feel you have to be implementing one of these strategies when we are in the room. Our school level walkthroughs will only focus on sections 2a and 2c because it is impossible to observe all sections on this document during a 10 minute visit. You might receive feedback in other areas BUT know we will provide info in these sections at the least.

This feedback will be used at the administration side as data on the implementation of effective teaching strategies and not as an I GOT YOU. Please view it as such and if you have questions or concerns, please reach out.

Thanks again for a successful kick off of the 23-24 school year and for helping our school SHINE BRIGHT in our community!

Staff Information
  • Staff working carpool outside that are not part of a grade level rotation will receive a duty rotation later this week. If you are okay staying in rotation and not wanting a rotation PLEASE email Dr. Hill ASAP.
  • Classified and Certified Staff Member of the Month: We will be doing this differently this year. In the lounge will be a board where you can leave a light bulb when a staff member shines each month. You will write their name and how they shone and your name. These light bulbs will be collected at the end of the month and one will be drawn and will receive the award. All others will be highlighted in the blog and will receive their light bulb in their mailbox.
  • Student Recognition: Each week administration would like to call 5 students' families who have shined during the week. Please help us reach this goal by nominating students throughout this year. We will only call the first five unless it's a repeat student and we want to diversify who we call. Here's the nomination form.
  • Thank you to Ms. Anderson for allowing us to switch the MTSS PLCs to the week of 9/18.
  • Here's the ELF Calendar for Ms. Glover.
  • Flu Shot Information can be found HERE. It will be held at DRES on Fri Oct 6, 2023 10am – 11:30am.
  • Don't forget to complete the Grade Level Missions and be ready to record on Thursday during your PLC (if you team did not have time to do this past week)
  • The Commitment Rings finally came in and will be in the lounge. Please pick up one when you get a chance.
