Week of 10/23

This week, I wanted to share a quick video that illustrates the GIST Strategy that can be found on the walkthrough tool under Reading Strategies. To hep students get the gist (get it...gist) of the strategy you could do as a class a few times and then after some time and with scaffolding as needed you can gradually release it to students to complete it independently.

Also, please know that I placed the WICOR Playbook on our dashboard under Instructional /Digital Resources for your convenience.

Please let me know any strategies you'd like to know more about and I can feature here! Hope you have a great weekend and please take time to fill your cup. You're no good to anyone else if your cup isn't full.

See you Monday!
Angela

Items for Attention

  • Please remember to post a lightbulb of nomination for classified and certified staff member for the month of October.
  • Here is the updated duty schedule. Please make sure you find your own substitute if you are going to be out.
  • Staff That Wear The Parent and Staff Hat at DRES: Please be reminded that when you are here at school you are a staff member first and must communicate and operate as such. Please do not disrupt your child's class or contact your child's teacher any other way than other DRES parents are able to do during the day. We discussed in August the challenge of wearing both hats and recognize that it can be difficult but your cooperation is greatly appreciated. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me. Also, if your child will not be in your room before or after school but in another staff member's room you MUST get permission from that staff member before sending your student to the different class. The reason for that is supervision and if someone or something is damaged the staff member where children are will be responsible for those in their care.
  • We need your help staff...please make sure that students report to their homeroom first thing in the morning. The only exceptions are picking up breakfast and walking their kindergarten or PreK sibling to class. There are no reunions. If you are at their door and they speak, that's awesome but they need to get to their class to complete their morning assignments.  Students can not go visit their favorite previous teacher or grade level when making their way to their room. Please help our students be successful in holding them to this expectation.

Reminders

Each science teacher will have an opportunity to give individual feedback regarding their personal science curriculum preferences. More information and an individual feedback form is coming the week of October 16th. For additional information please utilize our JCPS Science Curriculum Website.

  • Open Enrollment is going on now. ALL employees (including all new hires) should go online at www.shpnc.org then click ebenefits to enroll or call the Enrollment Center at 1-855-859-0966.
