Week of November 20 and November 27, 2023

Happy 2 school days before a much needed break. Below is the weekly blog for this coming week and next week. Please let me know if you have any questions. Between now and Winter Break, I will be focusing on only one reading strategy in hopes that we, as a team, can explore it fully and begin to utilize it throughout the school. That WICOR Reading Strategy is the QAR Strategy. This week, I'd just like you to review the strategy and if you're already using it, please send me an email when you can. The next blog post will include a video of QAR in action.

Thanks again for all you do and how flexible each of you are as issues comes our way. Hold on...the break is near. Because I am so grateful to each of you, please enjoy wearing jeans this coming Monday and Tuesday!

This is a wishlist provided by our school's PTO and per the PTO this is for all DRE staff including housekeeping and cafeteria staff. Tutors, temporary staff, floaters, and subs are not included in the wish list. If you have any questions, please see Ms. Melanie or email the PTO. 


Message from Mrs. Parrish:

This coming weekend is a scheduled PowerSchool Maintenance Weekend.  PowerSchool usually goes down around 5pm on Friday and isn't scheduled to come back up until late Sunday night/early Monday morning.  Some months you may find you have access early on Sunday.  It is not advised to make any changes or enter any grades during this time period.  Your changes may not save.  Maintenance is still running in the background.  Time is precious and we don't want to have to do things twice! ðŸ˜‰

As many of you know, at Dixon Road ES we will be celebrating the love of reading all month for Read Across America. I am excited to have time to celebrate authors, books, and hopefully ignite a love of reading in some students who don't have it already. HERE you will find events planned for the month. Week of 10/23

  This week, I wanted to share a quick video that illustrates the GIST Strategy that can be found on the walkthrough tool under Reading Strategies. To hep students get the gist (get it...gist) of the strategy you could do as a class a few times and then after some time and with scaffolding as needed you can gradually release it to students to complete it independently. Also, please know that I placed the  WICOR Playbook on our dashboard under Instructional /Digital Resources for your convenience.
