Week of December 11-15, 2023

I hope you have had a great weekend and you've been enjoying our 2023 December to Remember. If you haven't booked your massage, please do that HERE and don't forget a copy of the student edition of a December to Remember can be found here. I didn't want to leave out our student dragonflies. I have a Secret Snowman for the 500 Hall so I still need a volunteer on each of the other hallways for next week. All you will need to do is send me the name of a student you observed following expectation on your hall. That name can be sent in Telegram, text, or email but just need before announcements each morning. Email me if interested and thanks to Ms. Lee, Ms. Speight, Ms. Williams, Ms. Bradshaw, and Coach Bullock for serving last week.⛄

This will be our last focus on QAR but hopeful it won't be the last time the strategy is used in class. While reviewing our walkthrough data for my District Data Meeting tomorrow, 64% of the times observed the questions asked to students has been at DOK Level 1. By using the QAR strategy, we can ask higher level questions to our students and help them recognize what they must know to answer these higher questions. This page has strategies and resources for grades K-5 and in the areas of math and ELA and for our English Language Learners. It even has great read aloud books that are perfect for QAR. Enjoy!

Angela

P.S. Thank you to Ms. Lyons, Mr. Bates, and Ms. Freeman for preparing and hosting our Spelling Bee on Friday! The parents I spoke to Friday afternoon spoke highly of the event and our students.

Items for your attention

  • With the week I had last week, the Principal Council is a bit behind timeline. I will jump back on this this week. Please reassure students I am on it.
  • Thank you for continuing to teach curriculum and follow the pacing guide as we approach the holidays. Please make sure you are contacting me (Dr. Hill) if you are planning days/lessons that are not aligned with our pacing guide. I know you have buffer days and that's what these day are for but administration need to know when you are using those buffer days so our expectations of what we will see when completing walkthroughs will be aligned to what you have planned. Also please remember that not all students celebrate Christmas so please make sure you know your students and reach out to families if you have questions.
