As we conclude our focus on anticipation guides, I wanted to give you an anticipation guide for you to complete before our Wednesday Staff Meeting. This is a forced copy so please do not print this out, just bring your laptop to the meeting and have this accessible. I also wanted to share some cool examples for how an anticipation guide could be used in math, especially as we move into some the challenging problem solving, measurement, and fraction units.

  • NCDPI is hosting an Elementary Math Content Professional Learning Content Series this semester.  These virtual sessions are from 4:00 - 5:30 pm on the following dates: March 14, and April 11.  The January 11 session, Integrating Data Literacy Throughout the Content Standards, is led by NCDPI Content Specialists from Math, ELA, Science, Social Studies. The focus of the session is to explore the multi-disciplinary use of data. Participants will interact with slow-reveal graphs and engage in discussion to explore how data literacy can be developed through integration of multiple content areas. As many of you know, at Dixon Road ES we will be celebrating the love of reading all month for Read Across America. I am excited to have time to celebrate authors, books, and hopefully ignite a love of reading in some students who don't have it already. HERE you will find events planned for the month. Week of 10/23

  This week, I wanted to share a quick video that illustrates the GIST Strategy that can be found on the walkthrough tool under Reading Strategies. To hep students get the gist (get it...gist) of the strategy you could do as a class a few times and then after some time and with scaffolding as needed you can gradually release it to students to complete it independently. Also, please know that I placed the  WICOR Playbook on our dashboard under Instructional /Digital Resources for your convenience.
