Week of February 5-9, 2024

For the month of February, I thought it would be an awesome time to review the WICOR strategy of using an Anticipation Guide. The AVID Resource Guide shares that  "anticipation guides are used before the reading of a text to activate students’ prior knowledge and build curiosity around a new topic. Many educators use anticipation guides as a pre-reading strategy, since the guides launch students into the exploration of key concepts by engaging them in critical thinking about the concepts prior to reading". This strategy takes pre-planning but there are a lot of other WICOR strategies that can be employed during this activity like turn and talk and a collaboration activity where students line up instead of writing on the anticipation guide to show if they strongly agree or strongly disagree with the statements. Here is video of the strategy in action to start us off.
