It was great getting into some classrooms and seeing the awesome things happening across the campus. Here are two pictures sent to me by Mrs. Hall exploring Close Reading Strategies. Have questions? Please seek her out. We can learn so much from each other by just asking questions.

Great job in increasing the rigor of questions presented to students! Keep it up! Attached HERE is a workbook I received last year when I attended a DOK workshop that shows how to scaffold DOK questioning and activities to meet all our students where they are and push them to deeper levels of thinking if you'd like to explore it.

Information to Review

  • NCDPI is hosting an Elementary Math Content Professional Learning Content Series this semester.  These virtual sessions are from 4:00 - 5:30 pm on the following dates: March 14, and April 11.  The January 11 session, Integrating Data Literacy Throughout the Content Standards, is led by NCDPI Content Specialists from Math, ELA, Science, Social Studies. The focus of the session is to explore the multi-disciplinary use of data. Participants will interact with slow-reveal graphs and engage in discussion to explore how data literacy can be developed through integration of multiple content areas. As many of you know, at Dixon Road ES we will be celebrating the love of reading all month for Read Across America. I am excited to have time to celebrate authors, books, and hopefully ignite a love of reading in some students who don't have it already. HERE you will find events planned for the month. It is the expectation that at least twice this month you meet with your buddy class to read. The list of buddy classes can be found on the calendar in the notes section at the bottom. Week of 10/23

  This week, I wanted to share a quick video that illustrates the GIST Strategy that can be found on the walkthrough tool under Reading Strategies. To hep students get the gist (get it...gist) of the strategy you could do as a class a few times and then after some time and with scaffolding as needed you can gradually release it to students to complete it independently. Also, please know that I placed the  WICOR Playbook on our dashboard under Instructional /Digital Resources for your convenience.
